A man suspected of several counts of aggravated unlawful threat and attempted murder was charged in Stockholm City Court on 15 August. The prosecutor-led criminal investigation was carried out by the Swedish Security Service.
The suspicion of aggravated unlawful threat relates to threatening letters sent to a number of Swedish government ministers and others in 2017. The letters contained a powder which ultimately proved harmless. The attempted murder charge concerns plaintiffs in the UK.
As some of the counts of the indictment concern Swedish government members, the matter falls within the remit of the Swedish Security Service.
The investigation was headed by a prosecutor at the National Public Prosecution Department’s Unit against Organised Crime, reinforcing the National Security Unit.
