On 3 May 2018, three individuals were remanded in custody by Solna District Court on suspicion of preparation to commit a terrorist offence.
The individuals were arrested on 30 April, following interventions by the Swedish Police Authority and the Security Service in several locations across Sweden. Considerable amounts of material were seized in connection with these interventions.
Two of the individuals remanded in custody by Solna District Court on 3 May are suspected on probable grounds of preparation to commit a terrorist offence. The third individual is remanded in custody suspected on reasonable grounds of preparation to commit a terrorist offence.
A criminal investigation, headed by a prosecutor at the National Security Unit, has been launched by the Security Service. The investigation now continues with interrogations and analyses of the seized material. This work is both extensive and time-consuming. The investigation is subject to secrecy.
In parallel, the Security Service continues its regular intelligence efforts to prevent terrorist attacks. The Service examines large quantities of intelligence with a bearing on terrorism on a daily basis, and works systematically to confirm or refute this information. These are difficult considerations, as priorities have to be made at short notice and with very little information at hand.
The National Centre for Terrorist Threat Assessment (NCT) makes continuous assessments of the terrorist threat to Sweden. The terrorist threat level remains elevated; level three on a five-level scale.
