The man charged with several counts of aggravated unlawful threat and attempted murder has been sentenced to seven years' imprisonment by Stockholm City Court which also ordered him to pay damages. The prosecutor-led criminal investigation was carried out by the Swedish Security Service.

The man was convicted of sending threatening letters to a number of Swedish government ministers and others. The letters contained a powder which ultimately proved harmless. Stockholm City Court found the man guilty of 20 counts of unlawful threat, albeit not aggravated.

He was also found guilty of attempted murder of plaintiffs in the UK.

As some of the counts of the indictment concern Swedish government members, the matter falls within the remit of the Swedish Security Service.

The investigation was headed by a prosecutor at the National Public Prosecution Department's Unit against Organised Crime, reinforcing the National Security Unit.
